about BiRDSMiTH
- I make jewellery that's individual, unique and adaptable
- everything is interchangeable or can be layered with other sentimental pieces to reflect your personality
- choose your own style - there should be no boundaries relating to materials, styles or the gender of those who wear it
- anything goes, as long as you love it!
- every single piece is a one of a kind, unique - because you are too!
- my work exudes texture and a more natural finish associated with my ethos that “the marks of a maker are their signature, so some should be left in the piece"

Materials & Ethics
... although not perfect, I am constantly striving to improve my working & business practices
............................................................
All silver and gold bought & cast is now 100% recycled and I use every scrap in my workshop
Gemstones are carefully sourced from small businesses/cutters who have the same ethical values as me and know where the rough material has come from - this also enables me to support them, and creates a circular economy within our industry where skilled people can be paid a living wage for their work ....
Reimagining unloved jewellery, reusing materials, or recycling them, lessens the environmental impact further ....
Packaging is either recycled/recyclable or suitable for long term use - and may be changed when I find something that is beautiful and 100% sustainable....
............................................................
if there are any questions regarding elements of my production or practice that you would like to know more about, please do get in touch. I'm not perfect but do believe in being 100% transparent

Remodels & remakes
contact mewhat do you have in your jewellery box?
............................................................
if you're like most, there will be a selection of once loved pieces, that maybe don't fit or are broken/dated or inherited items that are very sentimental but just aren't you
............................................................
so that's where I come in - with your input, let us reimagine them all into something new and beautiful that you'll want to wear everyday, give them a new lease of life and the chance to become heirlooms of the future
............................................................
(there are a few limitations and certain risks with stones, but its something I will discuss in further detail at consultation stage so you are able to make an informed decision)

My journey
I am Katie Bird and I am a silver smith (hence BiRDSMiTH) - everyone calls me Bird or Birdy
... so, it started from a lifelong passion of all things sparkly and wearable, and raiding my Grannys jewellery box as a little girl.
- fast forward about 30 years, doing jobs I didn't enjoy, and all it took was a one day introduction to silversmithing, to discover something that I absolutely love doing and now can't live without -
I wanted to make my own unique pieces because there just wasn't the variety and individuality at the time, nothing felt very me!...
............................................................
... a couple more courses in wax carving followed, watching Youtube tutorial videos and a hell of a lot of experimenting/melting stuff and swearing - and here I am
... its a constant learning curve and I have to say I enjoy every minute of it, even the frustrating occasions when something goes wrong or having to stand in the freezing cold selling my wares, I wouldn't swap it for anything now ...
............................................................
... and the journey continues, my skills evolve and I set myself goals to fulfil every year, to push myself and my designs forward - it keeps things fresh and interesting, for myself and my customers, and you are cordially invited on this journey with me ...
............................................................
- other things I love -
live music,
pictures of pigeons and fish?? (not together),
big mugs of tea,
vintage cars - I'm talking 50/60s Porsche roadster or Merc 300SL Gullwing - proper dream cars!
pink,
sequins,
being on, in or near water,
David Bowie - who inspired my first collection "Stardust",
dogs (sausage, German shepherd, Great Danes are my favourites),
